Walk NYC. All of my friends bailed (or were otherwise indisposed), so I ended up hoofing the 6.3 Miles (10K) for charity alone this year--but hey, I still had a blast. Boy, were my feet sore afterwards! I think it's time to invest in some new sneakers.

I haven't given up on the half-marathon goal. Not quite there yet physically, but I'm working on my running (endurance, speed--lol--hence the need for new sneakers). ;)

Speed wise, I can cut a mile in a little under 9 minutes. Distance wise, I can jog for about 20 minutes straight before I need to slow to a walk.

20 minutes is not exactly where I wanted to be by now, but I'm still on track. I had to cut my running schedule down to 1-2 days a week, and replace the treadmill with the elliptical trainer, because of the havoc running was playing on my hips, knees and feet! Once I can manage to run for 30 minutes without a break I think I'll be on my way to some serious training.

Last weight recorded: 209
Pounds lost: 5
New weight recorded: 204 - Yay, almost under 200. ;)

Yasihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13193025776234191492noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17034665.post-31905297033470489992010-04-08T22:08:00.008-04:002010-04-08T23:00:25.248-04:00
Rompers for Big Gals: Fab or Fail?

I haven't worn a romper since I was 12 years old, so naturally I had to question whether this new trend was legit or the illegitimate brain child of a bottle of scotch and one too many episodes of Sesame Street. I was more than skeptical, but I gave it a whirl anyhow. I grabbed a cute denim number off the rack at a nearby Tj Maxx, and dragged it back to the fitting room determined to make it work.

Well, it's on, but I'm still on the fence. The Romper is quite cute, and if you're into comfort (which I totally am by the way) it's pretty roomy, but it's not exactly the most flattering style for a thick chick. The one I'm wearing in the pic is courtesy of Calvin Klein. I had no idea you could get a pair of Calvin's in a size 14, but alas, they were there. Calvin's or not however, I'm not sure if I like what the romper does to the waist (or the legs for that matter). Like many thick gals, I have drumstick legs. Long, meaty, drumstick legs. Not bad, but still, not exactly the type of legs that look good in short, shorts! So my recommendation? If you have no waist line (or want to display one), this style will not help you.

Jiggly sisters: Please stay away. Go for a capri version that offers a little more coverage on the leg. Solid sisters: Please proceed, but with exteme caution. ;)

Yasihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13193025776234191492noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17034665.post-69760270167762429102010-04-06T23:08:00.007-04:002010-04-06T23:50:08.338-04:00Pressure

Wow, last week was pretty challenging for me. Try trying to stay away from whole Chocolate bars, Fried Chicken, Pizza, full fat Ice Cream and anything else not tied down during your time of the month. Not an easy feat, let me tell you. I ate all of my Weight Watchers Daily Points, Weekly Points and every last one of my blessed Activity Points this week (something I rarely do). Luckily, my health improved, so I was able to gradually return to my regular exercise routine. I managed to add a lot of short walks too, so I think that helped buffer the blow. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed however, as I have yet to see if I survived Easter Sunday. I'm hoping that I won't see any increases on the scale along with the other four pounds of water weight I gained this week-- over the course of three days no less (as any girl knows, "Flo" tends to bring 2-5 pounds of extra baggage with her when she comes). Ah, to be bloated, crampy and crabby. My feet felt like hamburger in my shoes all week!

Last weight recorded: 217
Pounds lost: -4.4
New weight recorded: 212.6

Yasihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13193025776234191492noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17034665.post-32890380952045190142010-03-23T15:38:00.014-04:002010-03-23T16:21:32.461-04:00Fun Finds For Your Spring Closet...

Feathers are the thing this year, but PLEASE don't go crazy!
I love how this one was added as accent. Whatever your preference, be sure to pick a pair the skims the body, is not too tight and not too loose. The right jean should hug the bottom--not choke it, fall on or just slightly above the hip (unless you are 15, please avoid the lower riders), and elongate the leg. A little distress is fine, but too much bleaching or patchiness interrupts the flow of the eye, and will make you look wider. If you need more backside, get a jean that has alot of pocket detail on the rear. If you're attempting to downplay your blessed bootieliciousness, go with a jean that minimizes the pocket or eliminates it all together.

Daring Distressed Jean - $24.99 - alight.com

If you're the slightest bit daring and have a little bit a leg power, you might want to add a mini dress to your arsenal. You can't tell from these photos, but I've been sick for a few days now with a miserable cough/fever combo. I've missed a few cardio sessions as a result, but good news... I'm still losing weight! Not sure how. My appetite has not disappeared at all. In fact, the meds I'm taking actually stimulate appetite. I still manage to do a bit of my weight training routine from bed, and I do get out for the occasional walk, but other than that, no real cardio. It's not often that one drops 2 pounds after eating a steak & cheese sub slathered in mayo, a bucket of chicken noodle soup, and three 32 ounce Gatorades. So hey, I'll take it!

The black and white paisley print was a roomy size 12 (misses) and the black jewel neck number was a size 14. I still need to do a lot of work to fit into that size 12 (as you can see, I've still got a that pesky back fat and gut thing going on in the profile photo above), but this is a good sign that I might be able to fit into the bikini I bought just in time to kick off the summer season.

135 here I come. This is my second run in a year. The first was at the very beginning of the year. I took my profile down relatively early because I realized I just wasn't ready to get serious. Well, now I am. I've opened myself up to dating, and I think I'm a little more open minded than last time. Problem is, not much has been working. I think I'm sort of in a dating vacuum. All the guys I connect with all have problems of some kind. It's weird. Case in point-- I met this decent guy on Match a few weeks ago. Wasn't at all attracted to him at first, but he grew on me. Three incredible dates later, when I ask him how he thinks with us are developing, he tells me that he's still sort of seeing his Ex-girlfriend. I'm like--Whaa? Totally taken for a loop. So, of course, I'm upset and tell him that if he wants to date me, he's going to have to stop seeing his Ex. Well, this guy, this seemingly sweet, intelligent, well-travelled guy tells me that though he'd planned on moving on to a future with me, that his job might be relocating him overseas, and he would need to cut his losses (i.e. end things). Supposedly this had been one of the reasons why he hadn't ended things completely with his ex. He didn't want to start up anything new with someone else. Why wasn't I told this from the beginning? It sure would have made things easier. Oh well-back to the drawing board. Maybe I'm just naive. I'd like to believe in love and romance--really I would, but I'm skeptical and dating is just so much work. Too much work than I really have time for these days. Hmm...hope that doesn't mean I'm going to be an old maid. They're quick, easy to prepare and so so sweet. I sprinkle a little feta cheese and some chopped walnuts on top. Delicious!

Roasted Figs

2-4 figs sliced in half (stems removed)
2-3 sprays Fat Free cooking spray
1/4 cup Reduced Fat Feta Cheese
1/8 cup Chopped Walnuts

Set your over to 275. Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray. Place figs on the sheet (seed side up). Bake until figs are softened and slightly liquidy (approximately 8-10 minutes). Allow figs to cool, and transfer to a serving plate. Sprinkle on feta cheese and walnuts. Knee's still a pain, but swimming is helping.

Last weight recorded: 270
Pounds lost: -3
New weight recorded: 267

--Dress courtesy of Ashley Stewart, $29.

Yasihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13193025776234191492noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17034665.post-10652037875323486152009-08-11T23:24:00.009-04:002009-08-12T00:50:45.681-04:00I did it! 50 Pounds Down!

Halfway to my 100 pound milestone. Only 50 more to go (and hopefully gone by the end of the year). I realize there about 135 more pounds to lose overall, but I can't tell you how exhilarating it is to see nearly 1/3 of this weight disappear.

I've decided to treat myself to some special "gifts" for my hard work earned when I meet milestones too!

50 pounds - A gold necklace (or earring) - not sure yet.
75 pounds - New Cell Phone
100 pounds - Bike
125 pounds - ???
150 pounds - Nintendo Wii (w/ Fit Board)
Goal - ???

Dessert, Anyone?

If you've got a mean sweet tooth and find yourself a-fixin' to down that box of Oreos in your kitchen cupboard, don't do it! I've got a better idea.
Get on your sneakers.
Walk on down to your neighborhood supermarket and hit the freezer section.
Now shimmy over to the Dessert section.
You heard me correct. DESSERT.
The geniuses at Weight Watchers have created the perfect guilt free dessert for sugar addicts like us. Their Smart One's Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Sundae is sooo good, I guarantee that you'll scrape the edge of the container with your spoon (and maybe even your mouth) before you toss it. I was pretty upset when Weight Watcher's decided to chuck their Key Lime Cheesecake from production, but I must say, this is a mighty fine substitute. Picture vanilla ice cream atop a chocolate chip cookie crust, with fudge topping and chunks of cookie dough in between. And at just 3 points, you can afford to eat both servings in the box if you're feeling greedy and not completely blow your diet.

Smart One's Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Sundae - 170 Cal | 3 g Fat | 1 g Fiber (per serving)

Last weight recorded: 274
Pounds lost: -4
New weight recorded: 270

Yasihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13193025776234191492noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17034665.post-88934495952253131612009-08-02T17:29:00.005-04:002009-08-03T00:03:23.702-04:00Four Pounds Away from 50!

I'm just ounces away from reaching half of my 100 pound goal. When I started the program in April, my goal was to lose the lionshare of my excess weight (at least 100 of the 185 pounds I'd gained over the course of my life) by the close of this year. At this rate, I might just make it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

It's a bit exciting because I can't remember a time in my life when I didn't struggle with weight. I started this journey at a size 24/26. I'm a size 22 now! I spent five years trapped in a 3x, and now I can finally slide into a 2x. Some of my 2x's actually fit a lot looser now than they had when I purchased them and it feels so good to see my hard work paying off.

When I hit the 100 pound goal, I will be 220 pounds again and I'll probably cry. Sure, that may seem alot to the average person, but I'm pretty tall and when I was 220 pounds, I looked pretty decent. Boy, those were the days! Mini skirts with hemlines above the knee, sexy catsuits, and boots that fit over my calves. Okay I had to wrestle the boots on, but at least I could get them all the way up!

The last time I was 220 pounds, I was 18 years old and a freshman in college. I was a size 16/18 and had just discovered my sensuality. After years of hiding my body in bad clothes, I wanted to flaunt it. I had a body type very similar to Shayla's from "Dance Your Ass Off" actually. Thick, a tinsy-winsy belly, not too flabby. Now, almost everything is flabby!

I have alot of respect for Shayla by the way. :) Not only is she a great dancer, but she's doing things in dresses I could never have imagined doing when I was her size (and to a TV audience no less). I'm enjoying Ruben, Pinky and Mara too.

Photo: Shayla from Oxygen TV's "Dance Your Ass Off"

http://dyao.oxygen.com/

Last weight recorded: 278
Pounds lost: -4
New weight recorded: 274

Yasihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13193025776234191492noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17034665.post-84047312991110356012009-07-28T03:10:00.007-04:002009-07-28T03:27:10.772-04:00Do Now: DRESS it Up!

Turn up the heat with a sexy sundress in a graphical print like this bold saucy number Chrisette Michelle is wearing...

Plum Paisley Boho Maxi Dress -$76- Torrid.com

Yasihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13193025776234191492noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17034665.post-84734004956772334052009-07-28T01:53:00.006-04:002009-07-28T03:02:25.046-04:00Let them eat cake! Or not.

I just had a birthday. Valiantly stood my ground in the face of the great equalizer... Cake.

As soon as I saw the thing (I didn't order it), I made a quick resolution to end my impending yummy torture at just two bites, and actually succeeded. Yay! It wasn't easy, let me tell ya.

Now, I love cake as much as the next gal (and probably a bit more, because I live in NYC and let's be honest, it's pretty highly freakin' likely that the "next gal" will be a size 4, with a waist size equivalent of a pencil), but there ain't nuthin' in a cake that's even remotely diet friendly.

It's a little known fact that the S in Dessert actually stands for S&M ( as in sado-masochistic). Yep, dessert is right up there next to the nipple clamps and the butt flogger.

Why do we use cake to celebrate birthday's anyway? Why must we do the S&M? Sure, it might be fun to get smacked on the bottom every now and then, but you're still going to end up with a pretty sore, red ass. I hate to channel my inner skinny bitch here, but don't folks realize that eating cake will only add an extra digit to an already zip code-large ass? ESPECIALLY, a massive slice of chocolate cake (about the size of Texas), with chocolate frosting and (as if that weren't enough), chocolate chips sprinkled on the top and a f$#@-ing hefty heap of whipped cream on the side.

I swear, if there were a twelve step program for being addicted to chocolate I would be in it. If there were a medal of valor for bravery in face of death by dessert, I should have it.

*Sigh*. I'd better stop now, as I'm making myself hungry again. Really, it's not fair, but as they say " all things in moderation".

Only, be sure to leave the leftovers for sanitation. Or charity...whatever works best for you. ;)

Last weight recorded: 282
Pounds lost: -5
New weight recorded: 278

Yasihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13193025776234191492noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17034665.post-26669858085006265272009-07-17T17:07:00.003-04:002009-07-17T18:03:42.580-04:00Exercise Made Easy

After becoming saddled with this ITBS injury, I had to find a way to keep moving without overworking my joints. Aqua-jogging is a great way to rev up your engine whether your injured or not. Plus, it's perfect for full figured ladies like ourselves because it's virtually no impact. In the water your body only weighs 20% of what it would weigh on land, so you don't get tuckered out as quickly. You can try shallow water jogging or deep water jogging with floatation equipment. I prefer deep water jogging myself because it really ups the resistance. Don't worry, you'll still end up burning as many calories as you would had you been jogging on land-- and in the same amount of time. You can set your own pace, and move as fast or slowly as you want to. In deep water jogging, the resistance of the water really helps you get your heart rate up, albeit comfortably.

The best part? No sweaty, sticky clothes!

The hardest part? Balance. It's a little tricky with the deep water belt at first, but you'll get the hang of it with a little patience.

Here's my water jogging routine:

10 minute warm up lap - freestyle (or breaststroke, backstroke--whichever your prefer)

45 minutes aqua jog ( 1-2 minute wadding rest intervals every 15 minutes)

10 minute cool down - free swim

Last weight recorded: 285
Pounds lost: -3
New weight recorded: 282

Yasihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13193025776234191492noreply@blogger.com0
