    Powerwalker

    Hey gang,

So that's me, a few weeks ago, after having crossed the finish line at A.I.D.S. Walk NYC. All of my friends bailed (or were otherwise indisposed), so I ended up hoofing the 6.3 Miles (10K) for charity alone this year--but hey, I still had a blast. Boy, were my feet sore afterwards! I think it's time to invest in some new sneakers.
I haven't given up on the half-marathon goal. Not quite there yet physically, but I'm working on my running (endurance, speed--lol--hence the need for new sneakers). ;)
Speed wise, I can cut a mile in a little under 9 minutes. Distance wise, I can jog for about 20 minutes straight before I need to slow to a walk.
20 minutes is not exactly where I wanted to be by now, but I'm still on track. I had to cut my running schedule down to 1-2 days a week, and replace the treadmill with the elliptical trainer, because of the havoc running was playing on my hips, knees and feet! Once I can manage to run for 30 minutes without a break I think I'll be on my way to some serious training.

Rompers for Big Gals: Fab or Fail?

I haven't worn a romper since I was 12 years old, so naturally I had to question whether this new trend was legit or the illegitimate brain child of a bottle of scotch and one too many episodes of Sesame Street. I was more than skeptical, but I gave it a whirl anyhow. I grabbed a cute denim number off the rack at a nearby Tj Maxx, and dragged it back to the fitting room determined to make it work.
Well, it's on, but I'm still on the fence. The Romper is quite cute, and if you're into comfort (which I totally am by the way) it's pretty roomy, but it's not exactly the most flattering style for a thick chick. The one I'm wearing in the pic is courtesy of Calvin Klein. I had no idea you could get a pair of Calvin's in a size 14, but alas, they were there. Calvin's or not however, I'm not sure if I like what the romper does to the waist (or the legs for that matter). Like many thick gals, I have drumstick legs. Long, meaty, drumstick legs. Not bad, but still, not exactly the type of legs that look good in short, shorts! So my recommendation? If you have no waist line (or want to display one), this style will not help you.
Jiggly sisters: Please stay away. Go for a capri version that offers a little more coverage on the leg. Solid sisters: Please proceed, but with exteme caution. ;)

    Pressure

Wow, last week was pretty challenging for me. Try trying to stay away from whole Chocolate bars, Fried Chicken, Pizza, full fat Ice Cream and anything else not tied down during your time of the month. Not an easy feat, let me tell you. I ate all of my Weight Watchers Daily Points, Weekly Points and every last one of my blessed Activity Points this week (something I rarely do). Luckily, my health improved, so I was able to gradually return to my regular exercise routine. I managed to add a lot of short walks too, so I think that helped buffer the blow. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed however, as I have yet to see if I survived Easter Sunday. I'm hoping that I won't see any increases on the scale along with the other four pounds of water weight I gained this week-- over the course of three days no less (as any girl knows, "Flo" tends to bring 2-5 pounds of extra baggage with her when she comes). Ah, to be bloated, crampy and crabby. My feet felt like hamburger in my shoes all week!

Fun Finds For Your Spring Closet...

Feathers are the thing this year, but PLEASE don't go crazy!
I love how this one was added as accent. Not overpowering at all, but still makes a bold statement.

Every fashionable girl knows that a wardrobe is never complete without a really fabulous pair of jeans that accentuate all the right angles!

I love the color of this distressed pair, but some women may find that a darker wash is more slimming. Whatever your preference, be sure to pick a pair the skims the body, is not too tight and not too loose. The right jean should hug the bottom--not choke it, fall on or just slightly above the hip (unless you are 15, please avoid the lower riders), and elongate the leg. A little distress is fine, but too much bleaching or patchiness interrupts the flow of the eye, and will make you look wider. If you need more backside, get a jean that has alot of pocket detail on the rear. If you're attempting to downplay your blessed bootieliciousness, go with a jean that minimizes the pocket or eliminates it all together.

If you're the slightest bit daring and have a little bit a leg power, you might want to add a mini dress to your arsenal. This one provides a perfect a mount of drape to hide flabby arms and fuller tummies and is well worth the money.

    Progress Photos - March 2010 (-103 pounds)

Yep, that's your friendly blogger, trying on dresses in NYC at Macy's famous flagship store in Herald Square. You can't tell from these photos, but I've been sick for a few days now with a miserable cough/fever combo. I've missed a few cardio sessions as a result, but good news... I'm still losing weight! Not sure how. My appetite has not disappeared at all. In fact, the meds I'm taking actually stimulate appetite. I still manage to do a bit of my weight training routine from bed, and I do get out for the occasional walk, but other than that, no real cardio. It's not often that one drops 2 pounds after eating a steak & cheese sub slathered in mayo, a bucket of chicken noodle soup, and three 32 ounce Gatorades. So hey, I'll take it!

The black and white paisley print was a roomy size 12 (misses) and the black jewel neck number was a size 14. I still need to do a lot of work to fit into that size 12 (as you can see, I've still got a that pesky back fat and gut thing going on in the profile photo above), but this is a good sign that I might be able to fit into the bikini I bought just in time to kick off the summer season.

135 here I come. Only 82 more pounds to go now!
