Worst Foods You Can Eat by Dave Elger I recently came across an article entitled, The Five Absolute Worst Foods You Can Eat. It was written by Dr. Joseph Mercola, an osteopath who also wrote The No Grain Diet Book, a New York Times best seller. The article sparked my interest. What foods made his list? Hot dogs? Brats? How about a chocolate sundae? When compiling a worst food list, several criteria could be considered. Calorie density, the number of fat grams, the level of saturated fat or trans fats, grams of sugar, lack of fiber, or overall lack of nutritional value. I wondered if there were other lists out there with similar bad food lists. If I could find the same items on 3 or 4 different lists, I figure they must be really bad! Without peeking, can you guess Dr. Mercolas Top 5 Worst Foods, or is it Bottom 5? 1. Doughnuts: Fried, loaded with trans fats, lots of sugar, white flour, no fiber, vitamins or minerals. What more could you ask from a worst food? 2. Soda: Plenty of sugar, caffeine, artificial colors, and sulfites. All stuff that you do not need. Dr. Mercola thinks the artificial sweeteners in diet varieties arent much better. 3. French Fries: Fried potatoes are loaded with trans fats. 4. Chips: Just like their cousin French-fries, chips are made from potatoes, both with plenty of fat added during processing. Chips and fries contain ample levels of something called acrylamide, a compound suspected to be a possible cause of some cancers. 5. Fried, Non-fish seafood like shrimp, lobster, clams, oysters contain trans fats, acrylamide, mercury, and according to Dr. Mercola, perhaps parasites or viruses. There are other worst food lists. Charles Booras, M.D. has one with soda listed #1, which he eloquently describes as the epitome of nutritional bankruptcy. Other foods that made his list include French fries, bacon, granola bars, and doughnuts. Doughnuts, deep-fried foods, fast food hamburgers, high-fat ice cream, latte with real whipped cream, and soda are at the top of a 101 Worst Foods List put out by ediets. The usual suspects like sausage, most pizzas, most candy bars, onion rings, gravies, macaroni and cheese, egg rolls, and frosted breakfast cereals also made the ediets list. Its hardly practical to stop eating these foods completely. When you think about it, most Americans eat something off of the worst food list just about every day, if not every meal. What you can do is always keep fruit or cut vegetables handy for snacks, then increase portions of vegetables at every meal. Substitute rice or baked potatoes for french fries, and never go shopping when you are hungry and tempted. If you dont buy the stuff, its going to be much more difficult to eat it. I suspect that there are other worst foods out there, and you know what your favorites are. If you want to lose weight or improve your health, you also know what needs to be done. Fortunately, I didnt find beer on any of the lists. Relationship Corner....
Why do I always attract the wrong guy? by Ian Lewis Are you one of those nice, normal girls who always seems to attract the wrong kind of men? Men who are commitment-phobes, married, wastrels, abusers or just plain creeps? Men that your girlfriends disapproved of right from the beginning? Have you wondered where all the nice, single men are and why they can't find you for a change? If you've answered 'yes' to all those questions, you're not the only one. Even the sanest of women often end up in relationships with Mr. Wrong. Here are some tips to help you avoid relationship-disaster again, and again - and again. Is there a pattern? The most important thing is to first recognize that you have a problem. As an exercise, look at all the men you've dated or even been attracted to. Do you see a pattern in the kind of guys you attract? (There usually is. If you can't see one immediately, ask a friend or two to help you out). Now try and understand what it is about you that is making you attractive to that kind of guy. For instance, abusive men frequently search out women who are vulnerable. A friend of mine who kept dating married men realized that she was just much more comfortable with men who were unavailable: this made her more attractive to married men! High standards. Step two is to figure out what you are really looking for in a guy. It also helps if you clearly put down what you don't want in a guy. It's much easier to resist a good looking cad when you know that what you really want is a nice guy who is going to stay around for keeps. And it's easier to find the right guy when you know he may not come with a great car. Knowing what you want (and don't want) not only helps you keep the scum out, it also helps you zero down on places where you can meet the types of people you really do want to meet. Once you've got that sorted out, it is time for a little confidence-building exercise. Look at all the great things about you that cry out loud that you deserve a great guy. Are you attractive, friendly, smart, witty, a mean cook or a great listener? Surely there is something that you have that somebody worth having a relationship with will appreciate. In that case why waste your time with guys who aren't right, when you know you can do better? If it means that you have to go for a period of time without being in a relationship, it's alright. You can spend some time with your girlfriends or catch up on a hobby instead. Confidence. The other great thing about being self-assured is that it automatically makes you even more attractive. Men like women who are sure about themselves. Soon all the desirable guys you want to attract will be seeking you out. Finally, remember that no matter how great you are and how hard you try, sometimes you will still end up attracting the wrong kind of men. At times like this it is important to keep the faith. Kick the guy goodbye (there's no point wasting your time if you know that this one is a loser) and go back to searching for Mr. Right. He is out there somewhere. Happy hunting! Matching Your Body Type To Your Lingerie
by: Cory Willins One thing that women of all shapes and sizes, from the most petite to the big and beautiful, have in common is that the lingerie they buy must make them feel wonderful about themselves. That means sexy, sensual, desirable but most significantly, special. When your special 'someone' turns the sports channel off because he noticed you in your sexy lingerie, it's a definite plus and ego-boost. Modern women of today consider their lingerie as an ever-increasingly important part of their wardrobe. Online shopping has made it very easy, and opened up a new world for finding lingerie that is sexy, exotic and remains comfortable to wear. There are a few simple tips to bear in mind when shopping for lingerie so you will always look wonderful and feel great. Even though all women are beautiful, there are those times when you just require a little nudge to make you sparkle, and lingerie can do that. Fashion and comfort go together like peaches and cream. Choosing the right lingerie for you may take a bit of practice, however, since there is such a tremendous range of styles available. Picking Sexy Lingerie On the market today, the majority of women can wear red, white and black. Blondes look beautiful in pastels; brunettes need the stronger colors like sapphire blue or emerald green, while fiery redheads look fantastic in green, blues and earth tones. Satin, lace, silk, leather and velvet are just a few of the many materials available. Remember that a sheer material is always going to be more revealing. Sexy Lingerie and Your Body Type You need to feel comfortable with your own body before you can feel totally at ease with yourself. Emphasizing the correct body parts, which is not necessarily showing more skin, will make you feel appealing and desirable. Always accentuate your positive features and play down or understate the negative. If your body shape is straight - with bust, waist and hips almost the same, choose a style that will drape over your figure and stay away from tight fitting lingerie. Comfort is just as important as the way you look. Nobody wants to feel like they are being restricted in the wrong places. What Not to Wear Beautiful lingerie and indulging yourself go together. Keeping your lingerie in good condition and properly cared for will extend its use and will help you feel comfortable and sexy. Even though most of the lingerie we wear is not seen, it still has a big affect on the way we look and the way our clothes fit. Looking fantastic makes us feel beautiful. Here are a few hints: 1. Make sure your lingerie isn't worn, ripped or the wrong size 2. Thong undies under tight fitting skirts and pants will prevent panty lines from showing. 3. Legs look sexy and slimmer in black nylons 4. Light colors make your legs appear heavier 5. A one-piece body suit does a great job of hiding any bulges and makes you look slimmer 6. Always, and this can't be stressed enough, wear a bra that fits correctly. Modeling Gigs... Occasionally I will blog information about modeling gigs, contests or events I stumble across. For personal spiritual reasons, I never list "adult" gigs or gigs supporting pornography of any kind, though I will sometimes list boudoir gigs (lingerie, pin-up, etc.). Interested parties are advised to contact the poster for specific information. Don't sleep on a posting! These ads are often time sensitive, so get your comp cards or portfolios together and be ready to jump on the opportunity before it's gone. Here are a few tips if you're interested in becoming a model: Be smart. Ask questions about the gig, the poster and use your gut insincts. If it doesn't feel legit, it probably isn't. If you are meeting a photographer, Ask to see the photographers portfolio. Professional fashion photographers will have "tear sheets", amateurs may not, but may still be able to provide you with professional grade photos. Take a friend with you. If you're new to modeling, this is word to the wise. You're less likely to be taken advantage of, if you have a witness. Never agree to an informal shoot in a "motel room" or someone's apartment with anyone you don't know. I know this is hard. Alot of photographers (good and bad) use their homes as their "studio" space . My advice is to ask alot of questions. If this isn't an agency referral ask for references (ie: models or agencies they've worked with). Most legitamate photographers should be able to provide this information. At that point, go with instinct and insist that you bring a buddy. Don't be quick to open your wallet. So called management companies, modeling searches, internet searches or reps are notorious for robbing aspiring "inexperienced" models for their cash by insisting they pay for on the spot photography services and "handling" fees, and guess what? The model makes the investment and never gets a single gig! Don't buy it. Ask to see tear sheets, and a list of clients they have worked with and campaigns they have worked on. Some legit agencies ( like Ford or Goddesses) may ask you to cover SOME of your own fees, but this is usually negotiable and the agency will not even ask unless they are sure they can secure gigs for you. Most agencies charge their commission after they book jobs for you, not before. Do not be afraid to inquire about the terms of a booking and always read anything and everything before you sign on the dotted line. A contract is a contract, your signature can be your weight in gold or a first class ticket to hell. Never agree to an exclusive contract with an agency unless you are 100 positive they can get you lots of work. Do Your Research. Study the biz, seek advice from experienced models. That's what I did and continue to do. I first started modeling years ago as a plus size catwalk model for a boutique designer. When I decided to return to modelling recently, I found that I knew very little about print. I rectified that by doing research and asking questions. Not all full figured gals interested in modeling will be able to have a career as a plus model. The industry does have stringent requirements. However, if you want to model--why stop at just plus modeling? There are opportunities for commercial, petite and specialty models as well. Know thy self, and make your best qualities work for you. Remember, beauty is as beauty does. Take care of yourself and opportunities will open up for you.
